What is a Ghostwriter? I get this question a lot. Simply speaking ghostwriters are freelance writers that write for hire with the full understanding that their name will not be attached to the work in any way.
Many celebrities and politicians (or anyone else for that matter) have a story to tell and they either cannot write - or simply don't have the time. They hire a ghostwriter to work on the project with them. Ghostwriters need to be very discreet, since many times the owner of the material does not want it known that ghostwriter services have been used.
Ghostwriting is no different from any other writing. It can be anything from articles, blogs or books - it's just that the ghostwriter does not attach his/her name to the piece and has no resale rights whatsoever. The person who hires the freelance writer owns the content and all resale rights as if they'd written the piece themselves.
With the advent of so many blogs, many bloggers are using ghostwriters to keep their content current when they don't have the time to write themselves. This is the perfect way for them to maintain a website or blog and keep it current, while they spend their time on other things.
Ghostwriting can be a very effective means for freelance writers to obtain work. It pays well - without the fame - but to many people, writing and earning a living at it are the most important aspects. Many freelance ghostwriters enjoy the love of writing, but don't necessarily want to deal with the marketing involved to get the material published.
If you want to try your hand at freelance writing, here's a great source for you.
