Make It Reader Friendly

No matter what you're writing, you should be talking to a specific target audience.  You need to understand who you are talking to so that you can addresses their particular needs.

  • Be concise.  Say what you mean in as few words as possible.  Don't ramble.
  • Address  the readers' needs with the benefits of your product as it relates to them.
  • Make a connection.  Write as if talking directly to your audience.
  • Write like you talk.  Don't make people search for a dictionary.
  • Don't use passive words.  They complicate the sentences & make them hard to understand.
  • Active verbs will make your writing clearer and more engaging.
  • Tell your readers what you'd like them to do.  If they have to guess, they'll stop reading.
  • If writing for the Internet, be sure to get those keywords and key phrases into the mix.

Successful writing consists of many factors including research, organization, simplicity and conciseness.  Even if you're a good writer, you should always be looking for ways to get better.  Never stop improving your craft.
