Writer's Block happens to the best of us from time to time. But it's easy to overcome if you set up a routine time for yourself. If you do your best writing in the morning, keep 8 to 12 open, with no distractions. In you're an afternoon person, set a block of time aside each and every afternoon to accomplish that one thing - writing.
No phone calls, no jumping up for a snack. You'd be surprised how many hours during the week you lose over frivolous activity. Not to mention losing your train of thought and stressing out over not getting anything done.
Poor time management is often the main reason for falling behind with our writing and subsequently falling into a slump. Learn to set aside a specific time for your writing and keep to that schedule. Focus on the task at hand until it's finished. Don't take a break to write an easier piece just to feel like you're making progress. It doesn't work that way.
Keep lists and learn to prioritize your projects. Be sure to put the time sensitive ones on the top of the list. Don't be persuaded to do one of the easier jobs first as you'll probably run out of time to do what really maters and cause yourself undue stress.
If the idea does not come at first, try free-writing - put all your thoughts out there and edit them later. Just the physical job of typing your ideas will get the creative juices flowing. Sure, you're bound to need more editing in the end. But now you've got something to work with. You'll feel more like you're accomplishing something and reduce stress at the same time.
It sounds simple. And it is. When you think you have "a writer's block" ... utilize your set aside block of time ... and just do it. You'll be surprises at what you can accomplish with this simple discipline.
