Believe it or not, your mood will affect the quality of your writing. We can't always be in a good mood. But we can change our state-of-mind in an effort to complete our writing assignments on time and with the quality our clients expect and deserve. If you're having trouble getting started, try this:
- If you're overwhelmed, relax for a few minutes and try to clear your mind. If there's a particular problem bothering you, try to work it out first, or at least have a plan to do so later.
- Do some physical exercise. The endorphins released will jump start your brain.
- Play with the dog. Pet's have a calming effect on their humans. Watch your mood improve.
- Call a friend. Laugh at a joke. Smile - good moods are catchy.
- Don't start to write until you have the time to tend to business. Clock watching for an upcoming event will stifle your creativity.
- If you have writer's block, sit down at your computer and promise yourself that you will write at least one page before you get up again. Free write if you have to. You can edit later. Free-writing often gets the creative juices flowing.
I know this all sounds like common sense - and it is. Often we find ourselves down and just go with it. You can't afford that luxury as a writer.
